A power adapter (plug adapter) only changes the shape of the plug to fit the socket — it does not change the electricity. A voltage converter actually changes the voltage level. Most modern devices (phones, laptops, cameras) accept 100–240V and only need a plug adapter. High-wattage devices like hair dryers and electric shavers may only work on one voltage and need a converter.
Check the label on the device or its power brick. If it says "INPUT: 100–240V" it is dual voltage and works anywhere in the world with just a plug adapter. If it says "110V" or "120V" only, you need a voltage converter when travelling to 220–240V countries.
Type A — two flat pins (USA, Canada, Japan, Mexico). Type C — two round pins (most of Europe, Asia, South America). Type G — three rectangular pins in triangle (UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia). Type I — flat angled pins (Australia, New Zealand, China, Argentina). Type B — two flat + round earth pin (USA, Canada).
Almost certainly yes. Almost all modern phone chargers (USB-A, USB-C, Apple) are dual voltage (100–240V, 50/60Hz) — check the small print on the charger brick. You will need a plug adapter if the socket shape is different, but the charger itself will handle the voltage automatically.
Yes — New Zealand and Australia both use Type I plugs (flat angled pins) and run on 230V, 50Hz. Appliances from either country work interchangeably in both countries with no adapter needed.
